[Flemish school] OVERLAET, Antoine (manner of) miniature drawings. Ca. 1770-drawings, pen and brown ink, framing lines in brown ink, ca. 6,5 x 7 cm, thin laid paper, all unsigned (laid down by 4 corners on coloured paper). An excellent collection of small drawings executed in a miniature style, imitating the hatchings and linear style of engravings. This had become a fashionable genre by the late 18th c., particularly in Antwerp. Best known for these miniature designs was the Antwerp baker and part-time artist Antoine Overlaet. The subjects of this set includes the months of the year, an astronomer, the allegory of Architecture and a rural henhouse with village in the background.
