FOLOWER OF LUCAS GASSEL Saint Jerome in a landscape oil on panel 22 x 333⁄8 in. (55.8 x 84.8 cm.) Please note this lot is the property of a private individual. Provenance Dr. Jaffe, Berlin. Professor Paolino. Jacques Goudstikker, Amsterdam, as ‘Patinir-achtig’ (inv. no. 1981). Looted by the Nazi authorities, July 1940. Reichsmarschall Hermann Goering, July 1940 and until 1944, as ‘Patinier Landschap’ (RM. no. 316). Alois Miedl, Galerie Jacques Goudstikker, Amsterdam, traded for the Van Meegeren Vermeer (inv. no. H 122), 9 February 1944, from whom acquired by the following for 30,000 fl., Deutsche Landesvolksbank, Berlin. Recovered by the Monuments, Fine Arts and Archives Section, Munich Central Collecting Point (MCCP no. 15863/2), 22 November 1945, as 'Patinir'. Transferred to the Stichting Nederlands Kunstbezit (No. 758), 2 December 1946. Sold by the Dutch authorities; Fred. Muller & Cie., Amsterdam, 3-11 May 1953, lot 193, as 'Lucas van Gassel'. Private collection, Belgium. Restituted to the heir of Jacques Goudstikker, 2020.
