FOUR JAPANESE WOODBLOCK PRINT BOOKS AND THREE LEAFLETS WITH CALLIGRAPHY, MEIJI PERIOD Catalog Number: AB0319-0498 Woodblock prints Japan, Meiji period (1868-1912) This lot comprises four books of Japanese woodblock prints as well as three leaflets with one print each (folded many times) showing calligraphy. The front and back cover pages of each of the three larger books are in color while the rest are black and white. The books show works designed by master printmakers such as Suzuki Harunobu (c. 1725-1770), the first printmaker to produce full-color prints, Ishikawa Toyonobu (1711-1785) and Torii Kiyonaga (1752-1815), among others, and was published during the Meiji period (1868-1912). Dimensions: BOOK SIZE APPROX. 26.2 x 19.1 CM EACH, SHEET SIZE APPROX. 26.1 x 18.6 CM EACH Condition: The three large books are in overall good condition; browning and stains mostly outside the images; the back cover of one leaflet is missing; the fourth book shows extensive stains, creases and tears Provenance: German private collection
