FRANCE-- Kings of France, 14th-19th Century. A collection of one hundred and three documents, issued during the reigns of the Valois and Bourbon kings between 1317-1778, including, PHILIP V (1317-1322). Letters patent for a prior to sell fish (unsigned). CHARLES VI (1380-1422). Letters patent for a friary (unsigned). CHARLES VII (1422-1461). Warrant (secretarial signature). LOUIS XII (1498-1515). Two orders for payment, signed, mentioning his superintendant of finance, Jaques Hurault ( portion of second document cut away with loss of text ). FRANCIS I (1515-1547). Order for payment, signed ( discoloured ). HENRY II (1547-1559). Four orders for payment, signed. CHARLES IX (1560-1574). Four orders for payment, signed, and four other documents. HENRY III (1574-1589). Two orders on financial matters, signed ( one signature faded ). LOUIS XIII (1610-1643). One pardon signed, one licence signed, and two other documents. LOUIS XIV (1643-1715). Forty-one documents, of which nine issued during his minority (four 'Par le Roy la Reyne Régente sa mère Presente'), sixteen documents signed by the King (including four pouvoirs , appointing Colbert to act as Regent), also warrants, orders for payment, letters patent, confirmations of privileges, and appointments, and sixteen others (signatures probably secretarial or signed by Regents). LOUIS XV (1715-1774). Twenty-one documents, of which five signed by Philip, Duke of Orleans, as Regent during the King's minority, nine signed by the King (mainly relating to financial and administrative matters, and seven others (signatures probably secretarial, or signed by Regents, Louis Philip of Orleans and Louis de Bourbon). LOUIS XVI (1774-1793). Seven documents (signatures probably secretarial). Fourteen other documents (Duplicates, excerpts of state records, some with signatures of members of the Bourbon family, and ministers), two by Napoleon I ( defective, signatures cut away). All the documents are written in ink on vellum, sizes 360 x 640mm. and smaller, (some fading, discolouration and scorchmarks) mounted on the leaves of two albums, 19th Century blind-stamped calf with Gothic panels and cornerpieces, four gilt fillets, spines gilt in compartments, gilt-stamped titles, by Hering with his label (covers detached). The majority of documents in this extensive collection refer to financial matters, the two largest groups dating from the reigns of Louis XIV and Louis XV. It also includes commissions, warrants, letters patent, dispensations, orders for pensions, pardons, and confirmation of judicial decisions, many countersigned by secretaries of state (Letellier, Delaubespine, Phelypeaux and others).
