Very rare atlas, recorded only in three French institutions (BNF, Bibliothèque du Val-de-Grâce, Ecole de médecine navale of Rochefort). The maps include French coasts (Channel, Ocean, Mediterranean), notable ports such as Dunkerque, Gravelines, Calais, Dieppe, Cherbourg, St Malo, Brest, Port Louis, Lorient, Nantes, La Rochelle, Isle d’Aix, Rochefort, Bordeaux, Bayonne, Cette, Marseille, Toulon, Antibes, Ajaccio, Bastia, and French Navy foundries. Folio (230 x 340mm). Title-page followed by 39 maps and plans lithographed by Langlumé, with manuscript numbering (some spotting to the title and to 3 plates, 3 further plates with offsetting and faint remains of glue film, flattened creases and faint remains of glue on verso of first 14 plates, 18 plates with printed caption title wholly or partly trimmed off). Modern boards retaining a contemporary spine, flat spine decorated and lettered in gilt (spine chipped at head, worn at foot). Provenance : contemporary manuscript index of plates at verso of title, manuscript numbering – Sylvestre Petit de la Saussaye, chief of the bureau des travaux at the Ministère de la Marine, Paris, and later his son-in-law, Alexandre Félix Ratheau, engineering military officer, officer of the Légion d'honneur and author of manuals on fortification (inscription on the front free end-paper) – Bibliothèque École militaire du génie (ink stamp to the title-page, with shelfmark) – faint and illegible round ink stamp on title.
