François Balthazar Solvyns (1760-1824) A Collection of Two-Hundred and Fifty coloured Etchings descriptive of the Manners, Customs and Dresses of the Hindoos . Calcutta: 1799. Parts 2-5 only (of 12) in one volume, 2° (495 x 350mm). 4 lithographic section titles, 3 hand-coloured double-page lithographic views only (lacking that to part 4), and 69 hand-coloured lithographic plates only (of 70, lacking plate 1 to part 2), all mounted with captions and numbered, most with additional English manuscript descriptions at foot. (Slightly soiled.) Contemporary boards (rubbed, rebacked and recornered with modern calf). Part 2 comprises 35 illustrations of servants employed by Europeans, parts 3-5 each of 8 illustrations of Hindu women, Hindu men, and vehicles, horses and bullocks. See Abbey Travel 421; Shaw 348.
