Franklin Presid nt," with flourish) as President of the Supreme Executive Council of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, 29 September 1788. 2 pages, small folio. FRANKLIN APPROVES A PETITION IN A CASE OF BANKRUPTCY. A particularly attractive calligraphic document with a fine signature. At the top of page 1 is the bold heading: "To His Excellency Benjamin Franklin Esquire President"; the text comprises the "petition of Jesse Mount, Creditor of Daniel Danser" of New Jersey, who was engaged in "the Trade and Business of a Dealer and Chapman," and recently died bankrupt, owing Mount "upwards of £200." Seeking relief under the provisions of various Acts of the Pennsylvania Assembly pertaining to bankruptcy, Mount petitions Franklin to issue a Commission attaching whatever assets of Danser, including land, might yield "satisfaction and payment of the said Creditors." Franklin endorses the document, calling for the issuance of the document, to be directed to the Secretaries of the Council.
