FRANKLIN, BENJAMIN, Signer (Pennsylvania) . Document boldly signed ("B. Franklin," with large paraph) as President of the Supreme Executive Council of Pennsylvania, [Philadelphia], 20 June 1786. One page, an oblong, 342 x 426mm. (13 1/2 x 16 3/4 in.), ON PARCHMENT, large papered seal of the Commonwealth at upper left-hand corner, an attractive calligraphic document, countersigned at bottom by James Trimble, granting to William Ball "a certain tract of land called 'Middleton'...in Wyoming Township, Northumberland County," for the sum of #2. 8s. 3p. The frontier tract, comprising 423 acres, is located west southwest of present-day Pittsburg; its borders are described in detail by reference to various woodland trees and other landmarks.
