FRANZ METZNER (1870–1919) A Ceramic Art Deco Relief Starting price: 24 000 CZK (906 EUR) Hammer price: 29 000 CZK (1 094 EUR) Description dimensions: 24,5 x 17,5 cm (h x w) period: Around 1907, Germany In the early 20th century this native of Bohemia was a leading representative of the Vienna Secession. He was a professor at Vienna's school of applied art. His sculptural work is usually associated with architectural decoration. Although this low relief is not very large in size, it is filled with dynamic shapes that combine elements of Art Nouveau and Art Deco. The relief's style is reminiscent of the facade reliefs on the Weinhaus Rheingold building in Berlin. Fired patinated clay.
