In its format and presentation Fraser's work was intended to rival Daniell's Oriental Scenery and Salt's Views in Abyssinia . Although sold separately, this volume of plates illustrates scenes described in Fraser's account of his two-month trek in 1815 through the Indian Himalayas, Journal of a Tour through Part of the Snowy Range of the Himala Mountains , published the same year. Undertaken with his brother William Fraser and a native escort, the journey was the first to be made by a European party to the source of the Jumla and Ganges rivers.
