Beschreibung:

FREDERIC HENRI KAY HENRION (1914-1990) POST OFFICE SAVINGS BANK. 29x36 inches. J. Howitt, Nottingham. Condition A-: creases in top margin; pinholes in corners; vertical fold. Paper. Born in Germany, Henrion went to Paris to study with Paul Colin and there discovered the works of Cassandre as well as the Surrealists, which gave him a taste for collage and photomontage. He moved to London in 1939 and quickly grew to be a prominent graphic designer. During WWII, he used his talents creating posters, supporting both the British and American war effort. A well trained photographer, he uses photography here for the Post Office Savnigs Bank. Three colorful arrows are superimposed over a battleship to build a dynamic image (suggesting speed, power and firmness of direction) in which the text has been cleverly arranged; it is virtually a textbook example of all the tenets of Modernism.
