WOLFE COUNSELS A FELLOW OFFICER ON CLOTHING AND EQUIPMENT FOR THE WAR IN NORTH AMERICA. Wolfe and his correspondent are evidently preparing to take up a post that will require a sea voyage in a cold climate: "I omitted a very necessary article, in my list. It will be extremely cold at Sea both going & coming back. I would therefore recommend some fine flannel double breasted under waistcoat & 2 or 3 of a thicker sort. I have bespoke 4 of one sort & 2 of the other for myself. A muff too will be very convenient & a warm velvet bag lined with fine Furr. The French use this covering in preference to gloves & hatts & of course make'em better than we do in England-however I believe such things may be had for money. If you will send your Fire Arms to Barber's in Dover Street he will put them up together in a Box...The box has a lock, so that they may be easily got at." In a brief postscript he adds "My fingers are so benumbed, that you will hardly find me out...."
