First pattern silver and enamel insignia of the order from the 1st Empire. Gold central planchet with bust of Napoleon on the obverse, and eagle on the reverse. Cross is distinguished from the very similar 2nd Empire award by the lack of small balls at the ends of the arms and the tie at the base of the wreath. The second specimen is from the 3rd Republic. Both complete with ribbons. Condition: Good. Almost no loss of finish.
