from manuscript choirbooks, in Latin on parchment [thirteenth to sixteenth century] 16 leaves, comprising: (a) bifolium from an early Antiphoner, 9 lines of gothic bookhand, with music on a 4-line red stave (rastrum: 18mm.), capitals touched in red, red rubrics, 15 long and thin initials with elegantly bowing ascenders and feet terminating in baubles, some damp-staining and cockling to base of second leaf, else good condition, probably northern Italy, late thirteenth century, each leaf 490 by 330mm.; (b) leaf from a Choirbook, 7 lines of text with music on a 5-line red stave, rubrics in red, one initial ‘T’ (opening “Terribilis est iste …” for the dedication of a church, here specified as the “ecclesiae segobiensis”, ie. Segovia) in iridescent blue with red penwork, slight cockling else fine, Spain (Segovia Cathedral), late fifteenth century, 530 by 350mm.; plus 13 further leaves from Spanish choirbooks, most with pleasing coloured initials or calligraphic initials with penwork bands, probably sixteenth century
