Fine+ (6.5). Nice mag. Light spine stress; very light wear top edge. Tan to cream pages. Jack Davis cover. Art by Davis, Evans, Wood, Toth. Special Air Force ish. Includes Alex Toth's "F-86 Sabre Jet!", which caused friction between hard-to-please Kurtzman and prickly Toth. "The trick with Toth was to keep him away from that run amuck shadow technique of his, which he swore up and down was God's gift to art." -Kurtzman, quoted in Bill Schelly's Harvey Kurtzman The Man Who Created MAD and Revolutionized Humor in America. Fantagraphics: 2015 . Along with his design sense, Toth's "shadow technique" was the defining characteristic of his style . Kurtzman's rigidity ensured that Toth would never work for him again. PBA Grading Guarantee: Any individual comic book lot (not group lots) graded by PBA is guaranteed to match CGC grading. If the buyer chooses to have the comic CGC certified and that certification is lower than PBA’s, the lot may be returned for a full refund of the sales price (hammer price plus buyer’s premium). See terms and conditions for details. Consignments Accepted for PBA's Next Comic Book Auction. Golden Age, Silver Age, Pre-Code, Original Art, Interesting Ephemera Sought. Contact [email protected] for details. PBA COMICS March 26th Comic Book Sale catalogues available. Supplies Limited. Softcover catalogues limited to 200 copies ($45 + $5 postage/handling).
