Gattinara (Marco) et al. De curis egritudinum particularium noni Almansoris pratica uberrima, fourth edition, 3 parts in one, Gothic letter, printer's device at end, and woodcut of an enema syringe to I6v, slight toning throughout, browning to gathering N, unidentified ownership inscription in an early hand to front free endpaper, contemporary vellum over boards, bearing faint Hebrew script, remains of ties, stained and soiled, spine a little damaged, [Durling 2017; Alden 517/3; Hirsch II, 504; Garrison, page 129; Sander, n. 3044, not in Adams or in Wellcome Library], 8vo, Benedetto Ettore, Bologna, 1517. *** Uncommon early edition of a collection of medical texts on fevers and syphilis, first published in 1509, including Gattinara’s commentary on the 9th book of Rhazes (‘Liber medicinalis ad Almansorem’) and the ‘Pratica de febris’ by Gentile da Foligno. The compendium continued to enjoy popularity for nearly two centuries, especially in its Lyon editions. Gattinara (1442-1496) was the foremost 15th century student of Arabic medical literature. He studied under Giovanni Matteo Ferrari da Grado in Pavia, where he started teaching in 1467.
