GEMINI 4 SPACEWALK PHOTOGRAPHS. Four photographs. 1965. Vintage photographs by astronaut James McDivitt of the first American spacewalk: Ed White’s Extravehicular Activity (EVA) during the Gemini 4 mission on 3 June 1965. The Gemini 4 spacewalk lasted some 20 minutes, with White using a hand-held jet maneuvering gun to direct his movements. This jet can be seen in all of the photographs along with a gold tether attaching White to the spacecraft. White was one of the most athletic of the astronauts, which was very fortunate. It took unexpected arm strength for White to close his balky hatch at the end of the spacewalk. Four photographs, three are vintage full-frame Hasselblad photographs, 7.25 inches square on 8 by 10 sheets. Each has red NASA identification numbers being S-65-30430 , 30431 , and 30433 at the upper left corner. An additional Kodak Paper photograph is an enlargement of a 16mm motion picture camera frame. NASA ID number S-65-29766 in red at upper left corner. “A Kodak Paper” stamps on versos.
