GENERAL CHARLES GEORGE GORDON (1833-85) A 2½-page autograph letter, signed ("C. G. Gordon"), to Faulkner, 8°, Southampton, 24 March 1881 (thumb and fold marks). "A pretty good stir is now being made in re the slave trade, and the outcome may be the appt of Consuls at Kartoum & Mafsaivah(?). I have never forgotten you but my word will not help you at Foreign Office ... I am as it were boycotted in Egypt, and Malet would not aid you for my sake, so try and approach him through some other channel." A 5-page autograph letter, signed ("H. C. Moffitt") from General Gordon's sister, to an unnamed recipient, 8°, 5, Rockstone Place, Southampton, 19 Jan 1914, querying whether a certain pipe belonged to her late brother "as he always smoked cigarettes".
