Lot of 3, including: 7.25 x 9. in. albumen print, mounted to 9 x 11 in., of Gen. Alfred Pleasonton astride his horse; 7.5 x 9.5 in. albumen print, mounted to 9 x 11 in., of a Union major or lieutenant colonel posed beside his horse; and 5.75 x 8.75 in. unmounted albumen print of an unidentified Union colonel or brigadier general holding the bridle of his horse, the print penciled on verso Gardner. The first photograph is featured in Vol. 4 of The Photographic History of the Civil War in Ten Volumes, p. 299, which states it was made in Falmouth, VA, in 1864. Pleasonton brought the horse with him from Utah in 1861, and it carried him at Antietam, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, and Gettysburg. Condition: First a washed out toward the edges, with soiling and a stain in the lower right quadrant.; margin of mount lightly toned and soiled. Second with chipping at mount edges and several small (less than 1 in.) tears from the bottom edge of the print. Third missing the extreme upper left corner, else very good.
