GENOA, GUILD OF METALWORKERS. Statuti della Corporazione dei fabbri di Genova , in Italian and Latin. MANUSCRIPT ON VELLUM. [Genoa, ca.1440 to 1539]. 235 x 167mm, 42 leaves, COMPLETE, collation: 1 1 2-4 1 0 5 6 6 6 (last blank leaf cancelled), main portion written in brown ink in a gothic bookhand, contents and headings in red, addenda in various gothic and humanist cursive hands, (text occasionally rubbed and thumbed). 18th-century calf. The text (folio 1-37), in Italian, comprises the statutes and regulations of the fraternity in Genoa in 1434-1438, but probably written c.1440. At the end in a secretary hand, is a list of the council and members, followed by addenda of 1496, 1517, 1522, 1538 and 1539 written in various cursive hands, containing four further lists of members and mainly copies of petitions addressed to the Duke and government of Genoa, in Latin and Italian. The guild seems to have included silversmiths and workers in precious metals.
