GEOLOGICAL EXCELLENT QUALITY NATURAL DIAMOND CRYSTAL A superb and unusually well-crystallized natural octahedral diamond crystal of near gem-quality, with a few small inclusions. 0.2 grams (1.0 carat), 6.0 mm (1/4"). Very fine condition. Excellent specimen. Provenance Ex Douglas Rose collection. Footnotes Most natural diamonds are formed at high temperature and pressure at depths of 140 to 190 kilometers (87 to 120 miles) in the Earth's mantle. The name diamond is derived from the ancient Greek (adamas), "proper", or "unalterable". Diamonds are thought to have been recognized and mined in India for at least 3,000 years, where significant alluvial deposits of the stone could be found along the Penner, Krishna and Godavari rivers.
