GIOLFI, Antonio (1721-1796, Abbate). [ Vedute di Genova . Genoa: 1769 or later]. Large oblong 2° (574 x 773mm). Engraved throughout. 4 folding panoramic general views of Genoa by Guidotti after Torricelli, 15 views of Genoa by Giovanni Lorenzo Guidotti, C.Tessera & Chiesa after Torricelli, Giuseppe Riviera and Giolfi. (The second folding panorama with small hole repaired with slight loss to image, seven views with old light dampstaining just affecting the image, four views with neat repairs to blank margins.) Contemporary half morocco (rebacked and cornered). A magnificent and rare collection of views of Italy's most important port published under the auspices of the Genoan artist Abbate Giolfi. He was a student of Lorènzo de Ferrari, and director of the L'Accademia di Pittura e Sculptura from 1756-1760. The four panoramic views combine to give a majestic view of the city, extending from the River Bisagno to Albaro. The Berlin Kat .2720 records just a single plate from this collection. ( Vüe du Palais de Monsieur Marcello Durazzo dans la rüe Balbi.. ). [ Bound with :] Giovanni Lorenzo GUIDOTTI. Genoa nel solo giro delle sua mura vecchie con l'esposizione delle Chiesa e luoghi principali. Lucca: [circa 1760]. Etched plan of Genoa, 574 x 773mm. (Some old dampstaining and creasing, old neat repairs to the margins). Issued before the main series of views, while Guidotti was still working in Lucca, this plan was probably instigated by Giolfi, who had a particular interest in the church paintings in Genoa.
