Seltene u. einzige Ausgabe. - Atabey 505. Hilmy I, p.263 - Eine Beschreibung des vom Sekretär der türkischen Botschaft Glavany geplanten Denkmals, das am Eingang des Suezkanals zu Ehren der am Projekt Beteiligten errichtet werden sollte. Die Inschriften, die an den Seiten des Denkmals erscheinen sollten, waren in acht Sprachen (ägyptische Hieroglyphen, Hebräisch, Griechisch, assyrische Keilschrift, Türkisch, Latein, Arabisch, Französisch) und sind hier reproduziert. Die 6 Taf. nach Zeichnungen des Autors zeigen den Plan des pyramidenförmigen Monuments, die 4 Seiten reichlich mit allegorischen Skulpturen geschmückt und eine Gesamtansicht. Zwischen 1859 und 1869 gebaut, wurde der Suezkanal 1869 offiziell eingeweiht.
Suez channel - Egypt. - Rare First and only edition. - A description of a monument which Glavany proposed should be erected at the entrance to the Suez canal honouring those involved in the project. The inscription to be engraved on the sides of the monument was to be in eight languages: Egyptian hieroglyphs, Hebrew, Greek, Assyrian cunieform, Turkish, Latin, Arabic and French. These are reproduced, the leaf of Egyptian hieroglyphs being a coloured lithograph. The 6 plates show the plan of the pyramidal monument, the 4 faces abundantly decorated with allegorical sculptures and a general view. Built between 1859 and 1869, the Suez Canal was officially inaugurated in 1869. - Original orange boards, upper cover lettered in gilt, rebacked with red leather (spine rebacked, soiled, scuffed, front board somewhat damaged).
