This edition was published to celebrate the half-century of the first publication of Werther , with a new poem by Goethe "Noch einmal wagst Du, vielbeweinter Schatten, hervor Dich an des Tages Licht". Goedeke IV.3,164; Hagen 100 Fouqué (1777-1843), the author of Undine , was the most widely read of all German Romantic writers. He visited Goethe in 1802 and 1813 and admired him greatly sending him copies of all his works as they were published.
