GOLDEN COCKEREL PRESS -- Martin Donisthorpe ARMSTRONG (1882-1974). The Puppet Show . Waltham St Lawrence, Berkshire: The Golden Cockerel Press, 1922. 8° (190 x 130mm). (Occasional light spotting.) Original black cloth backed blue boards, printed paper spine label (extremities lightly rubbed, light spotting on boards). FIRST EDITION, ONE OF 1,200 COPIES. SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR. Chanticleer 6. [ With, loosely inserted :] M.D. ARMSTRONG. Autograph letter signed to Owen Rutter, Sutton, Pulborough, 13 April 1935, 1½ pages on a bifolium with printed address, 4to . Armstrong writes, 'I shall be delighted to sign the two G.C.P. books', mentions an exhibition at Foyles, and concludes: 'Best wishes for the prospects of the G.C.P.'. Provenance : [?]Owen Rutter (1889-1944). FIRST EDITION, SIGNED, WITH A LETTER TO A PARTNER OF THE PRESS. The Puppet Show was the sixth book published by the press, and it seems likely that Rutter (who became a partner of the press in August 1933), was requesting Armstrong to sign this volume and his Selection from the works of Jeremy Taylor, which the press published in October 1923.
