Goyard Steamer Trunk with "V" Monogram, Paris, c. 1910-25, with chevron canvas exterior, "V" monogram in black on sides, brass-bound, front closure inscribed "E. GOYARD AINE/233 Rue St. Honore/PARIS," and side locks with "E. GOYARD AINE," ht. 22 1/2, wd. 43 1/4, dp. 22 1/8 in. Provenance: This trunk was reviewed by Goyard in Paris in 2010 by the prior owner and was verified to have been produced c. 1910s-20s, at a time when Goyard records were scarce; as it was during the First World War. The lot is accompanied by a statement that the trunk was used by the Vanderbilt family, then inherited by Henry F. Rodriques Sr., who was employed for over 40 years by the Reed, Firestone, and Vanderbilt families. The trunk was then inherited by Henry F. Rodriques Jr. La Maison Goyard was founded in 1853 in Paris. Notable clients included the Maharajah de Kapurthala and the Duke and Duchess of Windsor.
