Title: Greece and the Levant. The Catalogue of the Henry Myron Blackmer Collection of Books and Manuscripts Author: Navari, Leonora Place: London Publisher: Maggs Bros. Ltd. Date: 1989 Description: xii, 446, [2] pp. Illustrated with 16 colored plates from the Blackmer books and manuscripts collection; frontispiece from photograph of the library. 13¼x9½, gray boards, lettered in black. 1 of 300 copies. First (and only) Edition. The important bibliographical reference detailing the Henry M. Blackmer Collection. With only 300 copies produced, to no surprise, it went out-of-print upon publication. Undoubtedly the finest collection on Modern Greece and Levantine stuides at the time of its dispersal in October 1989. Blackmer was an American banker who settled in Athens and formed this remarkable collection as a tribute to his adopted country, with books and other material dating from the 15th to the 19th centuries. This catalogue, which required several years to compile (over 1800 entries), set the standard and continues to remain the principal bibliographical tool on the subject for collectors and dealers. Includes the publisher’s original order form/prospectus, laid in. * Also, includes the Sotheby’s (London) auction catalogue for the October 13, 1989 sale of the Library of Henry M. Blackmer II, numerous color illustrations, blue cloth, color pictorial cover label, original bidding slip for that sale, laid in. Together, 2 volumes. Lot Amendments Condition: Slight fading to portions of gray boards, slight shelf wear; else near fine or better; Sotheby's catalogue fine. Item number: 185687
