A ceramic red figure ware lekanis with pedestal base, two loop handles and disc handle to the lid; the bowl decorated with a band of red vertical stripes; the conical lid with radiating lines to the handle; on the upper face two palmettes separating profile heads of 'ladies of fashion' each with a stephane, annular earring with drop pendant, and two-tier necklace; the outer rim with painted running wave pattern; selected details of the designs executed in white and ochre slip to add texture to the palmettes and brilliance to the jewellery. Ceramic, 655 grams, 15 cm. Fine condition, restored; lacking part of lid rim. Provenance Ex Rupert Wace.
