GREEK LARGE RED FIGURE WARE AMPHORA Circa 4th century BC. A tall ceramic red figure ware amphora of Magna Graecian workmanship, with pedestal base, mastoid body, strap handles and funicular neck; the neck decorated with a laurel leaf spray to the outer face, the neck with palmettes, a band of roundels and radiating leaves all in black, with a small swag over-painted in ochre on each face; the body with two large palmettes and profile faces of 'ladies of fashion', each with stephane, annular earring and two-tier necklace; below a running wave pattern; the faces detailed with restrained use of white and ochre slip.
