Provenance : Pope Gregory XVI (binding); J.J.B. Runei (ownership inscription on title-page, 1720); Oliver Henry Perkins (bookplate); Cortlandt F. Bishop (morocco bookplate, American Art Association, 6 April 1938, lot 518). Pope Gregory XVI (1765-1846) served as Pope from 1831 to 1846. His efforts to consolidate papal authority within the church were matched by his support of traditional monarchies throughout Europe.
