Title: Group of 6 letters, each signed by Linda and Charles Bukowski, in correspondence to Louise Webb (of Loujon Press) Author: Bukowski, Charles Place: San Pedro, CA Publisher: Date: 1981-1992 Description: Comprises: 1-page typed letter (long), dated 1-9-81, with 2 original drawings by Bukowski, one a bird-like figure and one a man figure with a bottle. “I know you think I’m a son of a bitch for not keeping closer touch, but you know how that happens—give a man a touch of fame and he’s too busy watching his own ass in the mirror to remember the real beginnings…Still drinking, typing and playing the horses…I live in a big house now…A good place to die…Finally living with a woman who isn’t a whore…Jesus, whatever happened to William Corrington? Love, Hank Buk.” * 1-page typed letter, dated Jan. 20, 1981. “Well, I don’t have an agent…It would be great if you could get ‘Four Steps’ done into a movie but, my god, it’s difficult. I wrote a screenplay, BARFLY, a good year or so ago and the director who wants to do it knows many people personally—producers and the works—but no luck, and it (sic) think it’s a good screenplay…” signed “Hank.” * 1-page typed letter, dated “early August 1984” (postmarked Aug. 9) signed “Hank” with an original drawing (man figure with bottle) and 4-line holographic note at the bottom, with Buk’s phone number. * 2-page autograph letter (with large hand-colored palm trees) signed (on one sheet) by Linda Lee Bukowski and a 13-line autograph note signed by Bukowski. Dated Sept. 6, 1985. Includes a hand-colored greeting card by Charles Bukowski, laid in. * 1-page typed letter signed “Hank” dated 3-14-90 giving Louise permission to use what she needs to showcase Jon Webb’s “4 Steps to the Wall.” Also mentions other places she needs to get permission from, including City Lights to use the “Clyde-June” story, and more. * 1-page typed letter signed “Hank B + Linda” dated 10/13/92 on a computer print-out. Discusses the long time since he last wrote: “Life gets in the way but that’s no excuse. So, I hope to hell you survived the hurricane. Please write, if you have. Or if you’re too pissed at me to write, well, I don’t blame you. We’ve had a few happenings around here. Earthquake. Riot. I had a cataract operation on right eye…Working on a novel, PULP…I’m 72 now. I should have been dead decades ago…If you’re there, hold on. Those days and nights with you and Jon were and are unforgettable.” Together, 6 letters (11x8½"), each with their original mailing envelope. Lot Amendments Condition: Minor handling and age wear, else fine. Item number: 168667
