Lot includes: Bank of China, 10 Yuan, 1940, serial # A5700061G, by American Bank Note Company, signed by famed Director William J. Keighley, during World War II. This item is framed and labeled "CHINESE BANKNOTE SIGNED IN BURMA", which indicates that Keighley served in the Burma Campaign for at least part of WWII. This so-called "short snorter" note is signed on the reverse side in ink at the top: "BURMA ROADSTER - WM. J. KEIGHLEY 8-24-194_", and KUNMING on left bottom margin. Beneath Keiley's signature are numerous other signatures as was common for allied personal stationed overseas, particularly in the Pacific Theatre. Interestingly, this note and the following medal were clearly from famed Film Director William Keighley, the director of over 39 commercial films, including Errol Flynn's Adventures of Robin Hood, The Prince and the Pauper, G'Men, The Man Who Came to Dinner, and The Street with No Name. France, Medal, Ville De Paris, awarded to WILLIAM KEIGHLEY, AMI DE PARIS/1956. 62 mm. Obverse inscription, FLUCTUAT NED MERGITUR, M. Delannoy, the medal designer. ARGENT on edge, indicating high silver content. FLUCTUAT NED MERGITUR, roughly meaning "He who rises with the wave is not swallowed by it" ... It became Paris' official motto in November 1853 upon Baron Haussmann's unilateral decision (Wikipedia). In original leather box. Austria, Medal for Services to Austrian Tourism, 60 mm, struck in bronze or gilt bronze; in red case of issue. USA, Masonic Pin, Grand Lodge F & A M of Pennsylvania for 50 Years of Service, 1/10 10k on reverse indicating gold plated, 15 mm. France, Republic Francaise, Miniature Enameled Medals, reverse with inscription HONNEUR ET PATRIE, other with ORDRE DES ARTS ET DES LETTRES, 13mm. France, Louis XV, Silver Jeton, dated 1728; LUD.XV.REX/CHRISTIANISS, reverse, VIRTUS.OMNIS.AB.ILLO, 1728 in exergue, 28 mm. France, Republique Francaise, Order of Arts and Letters, undated, with striped green and white ribbon; in gilt-colored oval frame, 39 mm. France, Republique Francaise, Legion D' Honneur, undated, with red ribbon; in gilt-colored oval frame, 43 mm. Spain, Order of Civil Merit, Commander (Orden del Mérito Civil) 50 mm x 48 mm. Gilt and white edged blue enamel cross Moline decussate supporting a crown, imposed on a four-pointed faceted rayed star, each arm composed of five rays, with oval green enamel laurel wreath suspension and loop for neck ribbon; the face with an oval central gilt medallion bearing an upright female figure against a radiant background, a sword in her right hand, an urn with a flame in the foreground, within an oval blue enamel ring inscribed in gilt letters 'AL MERITO CIVIL' (for civil merit); the reverse plain; on original full neck ribbon with ties, slightly age-faded in the center. The Order was instituted by King Alphonso XIII on 25 June 1926 to be awarded for outstanding meritorious service in the civil sphere. It was abolished by the Republic in 1931 and re-instituted by Generalissimo Franco on 7 November 1942; in gilt frame.
