Illustrated by Gustav Schrotter. Original cloth in dust jacket. Inscribed by Newell on flyleaf, December 1961 with high regard to California Congressman George Miller, Chairman of the House Committee on Science and Astronautics. Homer E. Newell Jr. was NASA Assistant Director for Space Science. A professor of mathematics who had established his scientific reputation at the Naval Research Laboratory by expertise in sounding rockets for exploration of the Upper Atmosphere. During the golden era of the Webb Administration, he either controlled or influenced virtually all non-military unmanned space missions up to and beyond the lunar landing.
