Gustav Klimt 1862 - 1918 STUDIE FÜR DIE JUNGFRAU (STUDY FOR THE VIRGIN) stamped with the Nachlass mark and inscribed Nachlass meines Bruders Gustav Hermine Klimt by the artist's sister (lower right) pencil on paper 56.7 by 37.2cm., 22 3/8 by 14 5/8 in. Drawn circa 1913-14, the present work is a study in connection with the central figure in Klimt's Die Jungfrau of 1913 (fig. 1; see F. Novotny & J. Dobai, Gustav Klimt Salzburg, 1967, no. 184; A. Weidinger, Gustav Klimt London, 2007, no. 214).
