GUSTAV KLUTSIS (1895-1944) [WITH THE EFFORTS OF MILLION OF WORKERS INVOLVED IN THE SOCIALIST COMPETITION, WE WILL CONVERT THE FIVE-YEAR PLAN INTO A FOUR-YEAR ONE]. 1930. 411/2x29 inches. Condition A-: minor repaired tears in margins; vertical and horizontal folds; minor staining in image. A classic Klutsis poster, with a red background, a crowd in the rear, three huge cranes and a workman in the foreground. The dynamic rhythm of the composition, and the pulse of energy from the industrial scene serve to energize the working class viewers of this poster. The goal is depicted in the numbers on the left side, which refer to increasing the size of the Soviet workforce during the upcoming year from 12.2 million to 13.3 million, so as to raise productivity by 25%, lower manufacturing costs by 11% thereby raising real wages an average of 12%. The typography is asymetrically arranged, forming creative angles with the cranes. A brilliant exercise by the master of Soviet political photo-montage. IVAM p. 84, Collective p. 61.
