Laid in is a printed note from Mrs. Florence Hardy to Mrs. Lacy Chew of Bryn Mawr, Pa., thanking her for her "expression of sympathy" on the death of the novelist and adding in her holograph, "With memories of your visit & grateful thanks, F.E.H.," Max Gate, [21 February 1928], 1 page, 12mo, with original envelope. Samuel Chew, an American professor, published several articles on Hardy, as well as a book entitled Thomas Hardy Poet and Novelist (New York, 1921, rev. ed. 1928). Purdy, p. 187. A near-fine copy.
