Contains at least 17 undisputed Winslow Homer illustrations of Civil War interest, and many other war images including a few of the covers; some illustrations have no artist name attributed (but could likely be by Homer). Homer began his career with Harper's Weekly before he was respected as a great artist and spent most of time making sketches from Mathew Brady Civil War photographs, which were then carved into wooden blocks. Also includes, a single issue, Volume VIII, No. 372, February 13, 1864, loosely laid in. Lot Amendments Condition: Fairly worn; lacks spine, covers detached, edge wear, rubbing; soiling and slight darkening to contents, foxing, occasional edge tears, title page and index leafs loosely laid in, plus other general wear; contents good to very good; binding just fair but worthy of repair; sold as is.
