HELVÉTIUS, CLAUDE ADRIEN. De l'Esprit. Paris: (Moreau for) Durand 1758. 4to, 255 x 195 mm. (10 1/16 x 7 5/8 in.), contemporary citron morocco, covers with triple gilt fillet border, spine in six compartments, five gilt with repeated drawer handle tools, gilt morocco lettering-piece in the second, turn-ins gilt, edges marbled and gilt, small repair to upper cover and to lower joint, slight wear to extremities, upper inner hinge split, some light spotting, occasional discoloration . FIRST EDITION, FIRST ISSUE, WITHOUT THE CANCELS, half-title, large woodcut title ornament by Papillon, with c 4 blank, privilege on verso of last leaf. Tchemerzine III, 672-3. Provenance : Henri Béraldi, bookplate.
