HEMINGWAY, Ernest. A brief autograph letter signed ("Poppa") and an autograph note signed ("Poppa") to Jane Mason who was staying at the Savoy-Plaza hotel in New York; both written by Hemingway at the hotel while he was in the city, [September 1935 -- the letter in a hotel envelope with bell captain stamp "1935 Sep 23"]. The letter 1 page, 8vo, in ink on hotel letterhead, integral blank leaf, the note in ink on oblong card (50 x 90 mm.), each with hotel envelope addressed by Hemingway . The letter: "We've been calling and trying to get hold of you. Call us up at Rhinelander 4-5350 and ask for Miss Pfeiffer. Have the telephone in Jinny's name [Pauline's sister]. Pauline, Bum and Mex [his son Patrick] all swell. Hoped I could see Tony [Jane's son]..." The note: "We called at 5 to see you, hope you're fine again..." -- Autograph letter signed ("Ernest and Pauline" in Pauline's hand) from Pauline Hemingway to Jane Mason at the Doctor's Hospital in New York, with autograph postscript and small sketch by Hemingway, [Havana, July 1933]. 3 pages, 8vo, with envelope . Hemingway's postscript (initialed "P"), in ink, reads: "If you see Archie [Archibald MacLeish] near this give him my love and tell him long letter on way to him and Ada. Hope you like this stationery; was given me by a very dear friend [probably Jane] who had the same thing the matter with her ['you' crossed out] that you have. P." Hemingway's brief sketch is of a small round head (below four "Xes" for kisses) with "Xes" for eyes and mouth, captioned "Monsieur Kiss." -- Autograph letter signed ("Pauline") from Pauline Hemingway to Jane and Grant Mason in Havana, with two annotations and an autograph postscript by Hemingway, Key West, [envelope postmarked 14 March 1933]. 6 pages, 8vo and small folio . Pauline's letter deals with the upcoming Mason visit to Key West; she encloses a photograph ( 103 x 118 cm. ), which is present, of the Hemingway boys. Hemingway's postscript, in ink (there are also two ink annotations totalling 11 words by him), reads: "Enjoy having picture of the tall willowy Mrs. M[ason]. N.B. to J. My coat [probably a gift from Jane] didn't get burned and it is very dear to me, and friends are kind enough to say very becoming.
