DescriptionHendrick van StreeckAmsterdam 1659 - 1720Still life with a quince, orange and other fruit on a partly draped ledge with Chinese porcelain and a glass of wine
signed upper left: H. v Streeck / F.oil on canvasunframed: 40.3 x 33.2 cm.; 15⅞ x 13 in.framed: 60.5 x 53 cm.; 23⅞ x 20⅞ in.Condition reportThe canvas has a firm lining - the paint surface is clean and the varnish is clear and even. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals fine retouching to a short horizontal line running down the centre of the upper margin for 4 cm. and a horizontal line connected to this (probably due to the stretcher, 16 cm. long). There is also a retouching 3cm long on the lower margin. The canvas appears to be otherwise untouched bar some minor scattered retouching along the margins. In overall good condition.

He began by studying under his father Juriaen van Streeck however, who specialised in still lifes, and the present work must owe its origins to this early training.
This painting was formerly owned by Frans C. Butôt, urbane Dutch tobacco merchant and collector of Dutch and Flemish ‘petit maîtres’, who put together a choice and fascinating group of pictures that in turn influenced the collecting tastes of Egon and Thomas Rusche, who were proud to seek out and acquire ‘the best of the smallest’, not only in terms of quality, but also of condition.
