Hermitage, La Chapelle--Vintage 1961
1 bottle per lot
AN EXCEPTIONNAL RANGE OF COTE DU RHONE FROM THE PRIVATE CELLAR OF THE RENOWNED PAUL JABOULET AINE DOMAIN The following wines have recently been shipped from the cellar Paul Jaboulet Domain and are in perfect conditions. The Maison Paul Jaboulet Aîné arose from a magical encounter: between a generous land on the edge of Tain l'Hermitage, and a family. Founded in 1834 by Antoine Jaboulet (1807-1864), the domain came to fame under the direction of his two sons, Paul and Henry. Since then, their descendants have followed one after another to govern over the destiny of a unique and demanding vineyard. In order to give a lift to the company, Nicolas and Frederic Jaboulet are now helped by Frederic Mairesse and the current owner of the company, the FREY family. The FREY family is one of the most famous vine grower in the Champagne area and the owner of Chateau La Lagune in Bordeaux. Now, convinced that the best vintages are yet to come, the company continues with passion the work of its predecessors. The wines of the domain are born of a land that nature seems to have destined for the growing of the vine. They all benefit from a unique savoir faire in the vineyard technique, in vinification and in aging: a real "trade-mark" of the Maison. It is thus that they have achieved the finest of all rewards, with the ranking of "Hermitage La Chapelle 1961" All the following wines are a veritable invitation to visit the Rhone Valley... HERMITAGE, LA CHAPELLE The name of our Hermitage La Chapelle is linked to the little chapel Saint-Christophe overlooking the terraced vineyards along the Rhone. of "terroirs" on these lands give the wine an identity of its own, thanks to the blending of grapes from different plots. 20.60 ha made up of granite gravel covered with micaschist and gneiss, but also areas of round alluvial stones. This diversity explains the presence of the local variations within the same Appellation (Bessards, Greffieux, Meal, Rocoules…) Grape variety Syrah Hermitage, La Chapelle--Vintage 1961 Rhône. Domaine-bottled: Paul Jaboulet Aîné Tasting Notes: At the Christie's and Vira event in Monte Carlo with eleven magnum tasting drawn from the legendary 1961 vintage - ten top Chateaux of Bordeaux plus Hermitage La Chapelle (recently released from Jaboulet's own private reserve). Deep colour, very little rim gradation. An honorary Claret for the purpose of this tasting and comparing well to its counterparts. Deep, rich and smokey aromas, great sweetness and exotic fragrance. Huge and mouth-filling, sensational sweet and silky flavours. Rich and fairly chunky with sensational rich, damson jam aftertaste. Bullet proof and will last for 30 years+. Monte Carlo October 2006. David Elswood 1 bottle per lot
