Hermitage, La Chapelle--Vintage 1978
1 dozen bottles per lot
JABOULET LA CHAPELLE FROM TWO 5 STAR VINTAGES Famed negociant house Jaboulet produces some of the world's greatest wine, with Hermitage La Chapelle being the jewel in its crown. La Chapelle is named after the small chapel built on the Hermitage hill in 1235 and consistently rivals 1st growth Bordeaux in quality. Vintage 1978:***** "Despite the terrible weather conditions, this was unquestionably a great Rhône vintage and said to be the best since 1911. It seemed to herald a much welcomed renaissance in the region."MB, Vintage Wine Vintage: 1990:***** "A splendid year throughout the Rhone. Mild spring, early flowering, hot dry summer, though not as baking as in the 1989, and an early harvest-mid-September in the North and from the 9th in the South. The wines were firmer and with more power than the 89's. " ***** MB, Vintage Wine Hermitage, La Chapelle--Vintage 1978 Rhône, Jaboulet Levels: 2cm or better; damp stained labels In original carton "Opaque plum/garnet-colored, with a fabulously sweet, youthful bouquet of licorice, incense, smoked meats, pepper, and blackberry/cassis fruit, the full-bodied 1978 La Chapelle is extremely young with astonishing vigor, velvety tannin, and a full-bodied, multi-dimensional, layered personality. The finish lasts for over 60 seconds. Remarkably fresh and not yet fully mature, the super-concentrated 1978 should continue to age well for another three decades. Anticipated maturity: now-2030" Robert Parker Wine Advocate #129 (June 2000) 1 dozen bottles per lot
