The ‚editio princeps’ at Aldus 1502. The ‚Histories’ are the only surviving work by Herodot, who was named by Cicero as the father of history. The contribrutor Georgios Gemistos (Psd. Pletho, ca. 1360-1452), a platonic philosopher from Mistra in southern Peloponnes was counselor of the last Byzantine Emperor Constantine, participated at the Council of Ferrara / Florence, where the issue of church union between the Catholic and the Greek Orthodox Church was concerned. The editor Joachim Camerarius (1500-1557), a humanist and polymath, friend of Melanchthon wrote the preface for this edition.
