Engraved portrait frontispiece, engraved titles, 79 engraved plates and 16 engraved maps (12 double-page, one folding). (Occasional light staining.) Contemporary quarter cloth and boards, printed paper spine labels (rebacked with old spines laid down, chipping to spine labels). Provenance : Horace Edwin Heyden (1837-1917) American book collector and historian (signature, dated 1850, his sale Henkels, Philadelphia, 16 October 1907, lot 355). FIRST EDITION. Illustrated with numerous double-page maps and full- page views of cities including New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Baltimore, and Richmond. Howes H-512; Sabin 31964. (2)
