HISTORICAL AND BIOGRAPHICAL RECORD OF THE CATTLE INDUSTRY AND THE CATTLEMEN OF TEXAS AND ADJACENT AREAS COX, James. St. Louis: Woodward & Tiernan Printing Co., 1895. Large quarto. Illustrated. Original blind and gilt tooled brown morocco, title in gilt omn front vover with large Lone Star and longhorn design in gilt (covers worn, rebacked). An important history of the cattle industry and a cornerstone of cattle books. Adams Hear 593; Howes C820; Rader 1891. Texas legend J. Frank Dobie wrote on this work, "In 1928 I traded a pair of store bought boots to my uncle Neville Dobie for his copy of this book. A man would have to throw in a young Santa Gertrudis bull now to get a copy." It is indeed rare, we have traced one cop at auction in 20 years. [With]: New Mexico Livestock Board , 1967, and the Arizona Brand Book and Supplement , 1953 (signed on cover "Gaines de Graffenried"). (3)
