Edinburgh: William Tait, 1828-1843. 8vo, 3/4 leather over marbled paper, matching marbled endpapers, gilt borders on leather and lettering on spine, marbled page edges; vol. I (1828) - 454pp; vol. II (1829) - 486pp; vol. III (1829) - 398pp.; vol. IV (1831) - 426pp.; vol. V (1834) - 474pp.; vol. VI (1837) - 474pp.; vol. VII (1840) - 471pp.; vol. VIII (1842) - 451pp.; vol. IX (1843) - 446pp. The first volume covers Alexander III, the Period of Wallace through Robert Bruce in 1329. The second covers Bruce's son, David II and gives an overview of the "Ancient State & Manners of Scotland." The third covers Robert II, Robert III, James I, to the Death of Richard II. The fourth, James II and James III. The fifth, 1497-1546 (James IV, James V & minority of Mary); The sixth, 1546-1565. The seventh, 1565 - 1572. The last two, Mary I and James VI and their relationship with Elizabeth I of England. The last begins with Elizabeth's reactions to Mary's execution and ends with Elizabeth's death and the accession of Charles I as King of Scotland, England and Ireland. Condition: Sunning of spines, cracking of outer hinges. All with some wear to corners. Toning of endpapers, but the text blocks are fine. Some appear to have hardly been opened.
