Lucas, Lady Victoria Herbert, Emery Walker Hatchards, Batsford, H.J. Massingham, Henry Sotheran & Co., W.M. Suthers, F. Karslake of Book Auction Records relating to Hodgson’s the English booktrade’s concern about a depression of the sale of books at the outbreak of the First World War [presumably on the understanding that the war would be over by christmas] (“The Resolution, in fact, expresses the feelings of the holders of stocks of the more expensive classes of books, and they were afraid that if such books slumped in value the printed records of the sales would cause serious deterioration of their stock. The erased signature was that of ‘Bernard Quaritch’. It was given by the second in command, in the absence of Mr Dring, the former believing that Mr Dring would have signed had he been there when I called, but Mr Dring phoned later asking that the signature be withdrawn, as he thought the auctioneers understood their business best”), and another resolution by several booksellers to abstain from sales of books during 1914, etc., Hodgson family papers: including, Richard Hodgson, Mary Hodgson, Henrietta Faith Hodgson, J.E.
