Hooker, London: Reeve and Co., 1849. 2° (498 x 367mm.). 30 hand-coloured lithographed plates by W. H. Fitch after Hooker. (Lacking list of subscribers and index to plates, a few light scattered spots not affecting images, hinges reinforced). Contemporary red cloth, gilt edges. (Rebacked preserving original spine, rubbed and scuffed). Provenance : Thomas A. Nelson (bookplate). "An important work both for the botanist and horticulturist since it contains descriptions and plates of many of the best garden Rhododendron species which can be grown in this country and an account of their discovery" ( Great Flower Books , p.60); Brunet III, 302; Nissen BBI 911; Stafleu and Cowan 2969.
