HOOKER, Joseph Dalton. The Rhododendrons of Sikkim-Himalaya, being an account...of the rhododendrons recently discovered in the mountains of Eastern Himalaya...edited by Sir W.J. Hooker . London: Reeve, Benham, and Reeve, 1849-1851. 2° (497 x 360mm.), 3 parts in one volume, first title with tinted lithographed vignette, 1 page list of subscribers and 30 fine hand-coloured lithographed plates by W.H. Fitch after Hooker. Contemporary maroon half morocco gilt, t.e.g. Fine copy of the second edition, complete with all three titles. Apart from the inclusion of Second Edition on the first title-page, there is no difference in date of issue, text, or quality of plates between the first and second editions. Nissen BBI 911; Great Flower Books p. 60 "An important work both for the botanist and horticulturalist since it contains descriptions and plates of many of the best garden Rhododendron species which can be grown in the country and an account of their discovery".
