Beschreibung:

Horae, use of Rome Nicolas Hygman for Simon Vostre c.1512 HORAE, use of Rome, in Latin. Paris: Nicolas Hygman for Simon Vostre [c.1512, almanac for 1512-30]. Bound in vellum with a semé of fleurs-de-lys. This Vostre edition, like other editions from the period, incorporates typographic material of diverse origins and different dates: it reuses 3 large cuts from the old Pigouchet suite and some of his borders, with material from Vérard and newer decorations from Kerver. The influence of new Renaissance styles from southern Germany by way of Strasbourg and Basel is apparent in many of the cuts, one of which (Saint Catherine) is signed with an unidentified monogram. Bohatta (1924) 944; Brunet V 1592, no. 88; Lacombe 233 bis. Octavo (179 x 111mm). Printed on vellum in red and black. 17 large cuts of various origins, plus full-page Vostre device with title and anatomical man in skeleton form, 3 half-page cuts of Saints Michael, Barbara and Catherine, of which the last is signed, and 36 small cuts of Evangelists, scenes from the Passion and saints, pages witin multi-piece historiated and ornamental border, initials and space fillers painted in gold on blue and magenta grounds, text ruled in red (a few leaves lightly soiled). 18th-century vellum over boards gilt, covers and spine with a semé of gold-stamped fleurs-de-lys, edges gilt (extremities rubbed); modern quarter morocco chemise and slipcase.
